Hey!
For the month of October I’ve dubbed it Scaretober in which I will be blogging every day in October. No, it’s not just random blogs in October but specifically scary movies movies. I’m definitely not one of those girls that enjoys scary movies by any means in fact this is a HUGE challenge for me since I’m such a wimp when it comes down to it. Some of the movies reviewed will be super scary and others will just be 90’s cheesy scary compared to today’s standards. There will be a few days during this month that I will be putting up more than one posts, because sometimes you can’t hold any awesome back when it comes to the blog.

Today’s movie is The Good Son

This movie stars Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin when they were both just starting out in Hollywood. The movie begins somewhere in what appears to be Arizona and Mark, Elijah Wood, ‘s mom has been in the hospital with a life threatening disease for sometime and dies just after Mark goes to see her for the last time. Mark’s dad is convinced by his brother that while he is away on a business trip to Japan that it would be a good idea to have Mark stay with his family in Maine. Mark meets his cousin Henry for the first time and he acts like they are already brothers, he then convinces him to have a bit of crazy fun. What Mark begins to find out is that his uncle’s family has also suffered the loss of his unknown cousin Richard. As Mark spends more time with Henry he begins to see how twisted his mind is and wonder how he has people so fooled. He worry for people grows after the car accident incident and even more after the skating pond incident with Henry’s own sister, Connie. When Mark tries to tell his aunt that Henry is responsible for these incidents she choses not to believe him. Later on, Henry’s mother begins to wonder what Henry has been up to all this time in the shed and goes to investigate and finds the rubber duck that Richard had when he died. When she confronts Henry at first he denies killing Richard and then is convinced that his mother is trying to put him away. Henry and his mother go for a walk later on and he admits to having killed Richard and then tries to kill her by throwing her off a cliff. Henry’s mother manages to climb back up the cliff and then has to pry both Henry and Mark apart from fighting. In the end she has to chose which child to save Henry or Mark. She choses Mark and the last scene of the movie is Mark staring out into the abyss of the Western horizon wondering if his aunt would make the same choice over again.

This movie is not classified as a horror movie but falls more into the thriller section. It scared me as a child and still scares me a bit now. It is strange to watch Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin as kids and perhaps even stranger to watch Macaulay in what I think is his darkest role to date.

If you have seen this movie do you think I classified this right under horror or would you have left it out of Scaretober? Also have you seen the movie Party Monster and do you think that should be reviewed for this series? Let me know. I apologize for this post being up so late, but I’ve been trying to write ahead and that hasn’t quite happened yet with this series. See you tomorrow for another thrilling post!
