Hey!
For the month of October I’ve dubbed it Scaretober in which I will be blogging every day in October. No, it’s not just random blogs in October but specifically scary movies movies. I’m definitely not one of those girls that enjoys scary movies by any means in fact this is a HUGE challenge for me since I’m such a wimp when it comes down to it. Some of the movies reviewed will be super scary and others will just be 90’s cheesy scary compared to today’s standards. There will be a few days during this month that I will be putting up more than one posts, because sometimes you can’t hold any awesome back when it comes to the blog.

Today’s movie is The Houses October Built

I’m not afraid of werewolves or vampires or haunted hotels, I’m afraid of what real human beings to do other real human beings.
-Walter Jon Williams

The movie opens with the Walter Jon Williams quote. The movie seems to be shot very much like Blair Witch style with shaky camera movements and tons of non contextual footage. The premise behind the footage appears to be that there are 5 friends who want to go some of the scariest haunted houses in the country most of these appear to be in Texas.

The movie jumps through news footage from the past 15 years of incidents at haunted houses that have gone really wrong throughout the movie as well as interviewing actors and actresses who just to haunted houses for a living. As the movie continues, the 5 friends go to several haunted houses some of which the people get upset that they are being filmed or that they are interviewing actors for the docu-movie. There are several moments throughout the movie that it appears that the friends lives get threatened. The group decides to find the ultimate haunted house from fearnet called the Blue Skeleton.

As the group gets closer and closer to finding the Blue Skeleton haunted house weird things begin to happen to them. At one point there are dolls left all around the rv, there are smashed pumpkins near the door and the scariest one yet is that one of the people working at the Blue Skeleton haunted house enters the group’s rv in the middle of the night and uses one of their cameras to film them while they are sleeping and then post the video to the internet. The group doesn’t find out about this incident until the next morning. It is even with all these things happening that the group leader still insists on pushing forward and finding the Blue Skeleton.

I won’t tell you how the movie ends, but I did find the movie overall very creepy. There were definitely several points while watching that I had to stop it because it felt all too real. I would probably wouldn’t have continued on the quest for the ultimate haunted house if my friends and I were being threatened, but that’s just me.

I hope that you will keep following along with this Scaretober series to see what other movies I review. See you soon!
